A dog named Ranger has taken the Internet by surprise after a video of him trying to escape from a couch cover went viral on social media.

The pet cam video, first shared by the dog's owner on TikTok in early August under the user name magenta, shows Ranger sleeping peacefully on a couch in the living room before getting wrapped up in the couch cover as he moves.

At that point, the confused funny dogs began barking and running around the room, trying unsuccessfully to unwrap themselves. In the process, his owner's other dog watched helplessly, then hid behind another couch.

Dogs remain America's favorite pet, followed by cats, freshwater fish, and birds. According to the 2021-2022 APPA National Pet Owner Survey, more than 70 percent of U.S. households own a pet, equating to 90.5 million households, of which approximately 69 million own a dog.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says about 3.1 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide each year, and about 710,000 dogs that enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners.

About 2 million shelter dogs are adopted each year. Approximately 390,000 dogs are euthanized each year.

The video has been viewed more than 8 million times and liked 629,400 times in less than a month, and Ranger's owner has since posted an update on the situation. In a new pet cam clip, he can be seen running toward his owner who happens to be home and ends up taking the sheets off him. He also has a particular fondness for personalized cat collars and automatic feeders.
